About Richard Thorsen

Mr. Thorsen recently retired from his professional valuation and accounting practices. His 65+ years’ active career included: military service as a frontline artillery forward observer attached to infantry rifle companies, a CPA specializing in taxation and business valuation, an Adjunct Professor in taxation and Lecturer in accounting and auditing at the University of Minnesota, a machinery and equipment appraiser, member of the IRS Commissioner’s Advisory Group, and a volunteer advisor to enterprises in Russia, Ukraine, Republic of Georgia, and Montenegro. He served in leadership positions as Managing Partner in a local CPA firm and Management Committee Chairman of a regional CPA firm, as an elected Vice President of the AICPA, President of the Minnesota Society of CPAs, Chairman of the Minnesota Board of Accountancy, member of the Board of Directors of MABVP, member of the Board of Governors of the national Institute of Business Appraisers.

He also received the Bronze Star Medal and the Minnesota Department of Military Affairs Distinguished Service Medal for “exceptionally meritorious service in a duty of great responsibility” for his service in the Korean War.
